Day 6

In 1992 the St. Kilda Breakwater was declared a protected wildlife area. Among other things they have Water Rats and Fairy Penguins so Alison and I went to look for them at the beach (we saw both!). We brought tapas and Australian beers to the end of the main pier.

The Fairy Penguin as a species is not endangered. There are 60.000 to 80.000 of the Little Penguins in Victoria alone so it makes sense why they are so easy to find:)

Later on we went out in St. Kilda that has a nice clubbing environment.

Day 5

Today Alison (my new mate from Melbourne) and I went to see art galleries. It turned out that a lot of the galleries were rebuilding. But this is the entrance of The National Gallery where pouring water is running down a big glass door

We went to Eureka Skydeck to get a view of the city. The Skydeck is located on one of the great buildings of the world (297 meter residential building)
We went for a nice lunch by Yarra Promenade
At Queens Bridge
We went for a walk in the nice weather before Alison went to work

I'm back at the hostel and this is the view from my top bunk bed. I bought a USB-modem from Vodafone to go online. I share the room with 9 others - mostly boys so of cause there's a cold beer waiting for me when I get home :)
Tonight I'm going to a BBQ at the hostel!

Day 4

I met a danish girl called Karin under a pavilion at the beach - we were both trying to escape the pouring rain! We went for coffee and cake instead at this cool place called 27th apartment. Thanks for saving my rainy afternoon Karin :)

I went for a graffiti walk in Melbourne and it was really interesting! Melbourne's art beat is fantastic and among it is their Laneways Commissions project that supports street artists.

Day 3 // part two

My new australian mates: Alison and her boyfriend Matt. I love this photo! It's taken with my new Leica CF 22 Flash unit:)

We had some vine at their lovely roof terrace at Flinders St. That's very central and close to Federation Square.

Those boys are talented!

Day 3 // part one

First of all: Merry Christmas!
They promised nice weather
...But in Melbourne the weather changes a lot!

Swanston St.

I went to the Australian center for the moving image -> "Immerse yourself in the world of film, television and digital culture"

Watch my time slice here
It's a full-body interactive experience where you are watched by an array of 36 cameras - cool!

Old school gaming
Shopping (or actually just looking - my backpack is too small!)
The circle tram
Exploring the city from the tram
